Trek del Condor

Quito, Ecuador | by Andando Tours

On this route you will be able to take in the most spectacular views of Ecuador´s highest volcanoes as well as crossing through the best preserved highlands of our country. This adventure will let you admire the very special flora and fauna that can only be found in this unique and magical environment while you hike through ancient and sacred Incan territory.

This hike is called “El Condor” because this region is home to the largest Condor population that still exists in Ecuador. This bird, the biggest of our planet, is the king of the Andes and it´s usually seen gliding peacefully through the clouds. The path that this famous trekking route follows passes through untouched natural habitats, filled with grasslands, lakes, swamps and has also a couple of amazing surprises like old “rivers” of solidified lava, from the neighboring volcanoes, that will turn the hiking hours into a nonstop show of breathtaking and rare landscapes.

With an average of 11200 f.a.s.l, this route demands certain fitness level however, it can be enjoyed by anyone looking for a hiking challenge as it doesn’t involve any climbing or difficult terrain. It also offers the opportunity of a close encounter with 2 of the highest active volcanoes in the world and the stunning views from one of the summits of the dormant Rumiñahui.
