DAY 1: Cusco / Cachora / Chikisca
After leaving Cusco we travel through Antapampa and into Limatambo where we will stop to visit the ancient Inca site of Tarawasi. From there we follow the road past the Apurimac River, an impressive gorge and the village of Curawasi until we reach the Sayhuite Stone. The Sayhuite Stone is believed to be a carved map of the Inca Empire. From there we continue to the village of Cachora, the start of the day's hike. After meeting the rest of our field crew we will begin our descent enjoying views of the Apurimac canyon, Mt. Padreyoc and Mt. Qoriwayrachina. We camp next to the river at Chikiska.
