With so many adventures to offer, Chile is one of the most sought after adventure destinations.  Chile offers some of the best hiking, fishing, kayaking, rafting, climbing, horseback riding, and skiing adventures all in one location.

Chile is known for its kayaking and whitewater rafting. The two famous places for these adventures are Futaleufu and Bio-Bio.  These rivers come down from the Andes mountains, which makes them precariously challenging for the adventure traveler.  You can also find water sporting activities on beaches such as the Playa Blanca, the Playa Brava and the Playa Huayquique.

Torres del Paine, the main Chilean national park, provides an abundance of hiking trails. Hikers can do daily trips or do the popular 5-day “w” hike.  Other popular hiking and trekking adventure spots are Chile’s Lake District and the Villarrica Volcano, which is known as the world’s most active volcano.  The Lauca National Park is another place worth a visit, especially because of the endemic rhea bird.  For people interested in checking out religious architecture, Chiloe Island gives a taste of some very old indigenous churches that are made mostly of wood.

Chile, considered the best place to ski in South America, offers excellent skiing and snowboarding in the summer months for those in the Northern Hemisphere.  There are many ski centers with great snow such as Portillo, Llaima, and Valle Nevado.

The diverse landscape of Chile also offers great road biking and mountain biking trips.  You can go through the Atacama Desert, see the beautiful scenery at the Chilean Lakes District or see the world’s most isolated island – Easter Island - on a bike.

Chile is also home to four penguin species, Humboldt, Macaroni, Magellanic and Rockhopper.  Magdalena Island, the largest breeding ground for Magellanic penguins, is a popular tourist destination.

If you are looking for an intense truly avid adventure, you need to head to Pucon where you can skydive from 9,000 feet. Scary, but you can’t beat this thrill!
