Morocco is situated in the northwestern part of the African continent.  This exotic country is bordered by Algeria and Mauritania in the south and the Atlantic Ocean and the Strait of Gibraltar in the north and the west, and is a popular adventure destination by European travelers.

For the adventure-seeker, don’t miss the Atlas Mountains, which are perfect for horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking. The High Sahara Desert also provides a wealth of adventure options as you can go trekking on the sand dunes or mountain biking through Berber Villages.  For avid horseback riders, riding in the Sahara desert can be a challenging adventure.  Discovering the rustic settlements and camping in the desert will give travelers the exposure to the wilderness of Morocco.  Riders will enjoy the sturdy, sure-footed Berber horses that cope with harsh climatic conditions of Morocco.  Camel riding in the Sahara Desert is an experience where you can participate in a caravan of camels.  While on your journey, stop and camp in the Draa Valley at the foot of an old embattlement, or Kasbah, such as Ait Benhaddou. Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in Morocco, is another nice challenge for a mountain climbing or hiking trip. Travelers could also go with a Bedouin caravan on a safari that takes the traveler through the color-changing sand dunes to oases.

With all of the talk about the High Sahara Desert, there is still skiing in Morocco. The Oukaïmeden and Ifrane resorts, in the Atlas Mountains, have skiing and snowboarding but be sure to check the snow conditions as they can be fickle.

No mention of Morocco can be complete without a mention of its fishing travel industry. Fish you can find here include barbell, pike, perch, eels, carps and roach.  Mohammedia is one of the main salt water and deep sea fishing hubs, followed by various other towns such as Lagsera, Oualidia, Essaouira,  and Sakhla, which is in the Western Sahara.  Agadir is another fantastic salt water fishing town, but also provides a wealth of adventure activities, such as scuba diving and horseback riding.  Additional water adventure can be found in the Oum-er-Rbia and Ahansal Rivers, which both offer white water rafting trips year round.

Once the adventure part of your trip is over, you should definitely stay a night or two one of the hundreds of many gorgeous riads in Marrakesh and experience the true Moroccan hospitality.  Or you could try bathing in some of the Moroccan hamams with their special black colored soaps that they call the savon noir.
