Spain is one of the few countries of the world whose various cultures have spread far beyond their roots. The Spanish culture is largely influenced by the neighboring Roman culture, but the culture harks back to prehistoric times – the cave paintings at Altamira are a must-see. Various historically significant cities dot the country, like Madrid, Cordoba, Barcelona, Valencia, Bilbao and Seville. If you want to experience what a fire festival is really like, you must visit during the Las Fallas festival in Valencia (March 12 to 19 each year) when more than 500,000 people throng the streets of the city and torch various puppets.

The best way to see most of Spain is through trekking. You could use the stunning route at Mallorca, which will take you through various beaches on the way. For a more challenging adventure, you could scale the peaks of the Sierra de Tramuntana. If you are into climbing and trekking, climbing at Sierra Aitana is a relatively easy adventure.

With Spain’s 4000 km of coastline and warm weather, limpid waters, and 200 harbors, it is one of the top destinations for a sailing adventure in Europe.

The area of Spain that you just cannot miss is the southern region known as the Andalusia. Much of this region is still untouched by tourists and unknown to even locals. Adventure travelers can set out backpacking into the Andalusian wilderness and travel to some of the most beautiful beaches in Spain where you can windsurf, scuba dive, fish, sail, or just soak up some of the 320 days of sunlight a year.  If you are interested in a horseback riding adventure, you will love riding one of the Andalusions which are strongly built, elegant and known for their intelligence.  They are also one of the most comfortable horses to ride.
